Cathedral of the Incarnation
Welcome to the
Cathedral of the Incarnation

The essence of the Cathedral of the Incarnation is not the brick and mortar out of which it is built; it is instead, the people who identify with it and who are bonded together by a common faith and a united sense of mission.

Our parish is a thriving community of more than 2,300 families representing more than 4,800 individuals in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee. The average age of our members is 35 although there is a good representation of individuals in their forties and older!  In this website you will find the breath of ministries active in this dynamic parish. The diversity of our ministries and parishioners is a reflection of God’s gift of Life.

The people of Cathedral rely on one another to build our parish, but their support extends much further than our corner on West End Ave.  Cathedral parishioners are active in outreach throughout our community and beyond our borders as we strive to reflect the Gospel message that “God so loved the world.”

We welcome you to our website. We hope it allows you to gain insight into the Cathedral of the Incarnation Parish Community.

May God bless you and strengthen you in mission and service.

SUNDAY ADULT ONGOING FORMATION
Now that our Tuesday evening series on the Church Fathers has ended, we are gearing up for more Sunday morning programs following the 8:30 Sunday Mass. These programs cover a variety of topics. We obtain excellent speakers who are experts on the topics that are addressed. Some scheduling is already done, but we are looking ahead. What are some topics that you would like to learn more about? What speakers would encourage you to attend? Send your thoughts and suggestions to:
Deacon Jim McKenzie jmckenzie@cathedralnashville.org
Fr. Ed Steiner esteiner@cathedralnashville.org

Habitat HouseCATHEDRAL IS GOING TO BUILD A HOUSE!
The Cathedral parish will be joining three other parishes to build a house for Habitat for Humanity in October. Called a "Faith Build," we will join forces in October to make someone's life a whole lot better. Be thinking about volunteering with fellow Catholics to build a home. We have a parishioner who has graciously agree to help organize us for our part in the build. If you are interesting in serving on the organizing committee, please email Judy Wolfsberger: judithwolfy@bellsouth.net.

If the Lord does not build a house, in vain do the builders labor.

A CALL FOR FASTING ON FRIDAYS
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) approved a pastoral strategy addressing critical life, marriage and religious liberty concerns at their annual meeting last November. Part of the strategy encourages Catholics to fast and abstain from meat on Fridays during this Year of Faith for the intention of the protection of Life, Marriage, and Religious Liberty in our country.

Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone of San Francisco, chairman of the Bishops' Subcommittee for the Promotion and Defense of Marriage, explained that this pastoral strategy is "part of a movement for Life, Marriage, and Religious Liberty, which engages the New Evangelization and can be incorporated into the Year of Faith. Life, Marriage, and Religious Liberty are not only foundational to Catholic social teaching but also fundamental to the good of society."

Sign the Pledge to Fast for Life, Marriage, and Religious Liberty at www.usccb.org. Follow the links Beliefs and Teachings > How We Teach > New Evangelization.

SPONSORS NEEDED!!!!
RCIA Sponsors Are Needed!

Have you ever thought that you might like to serve in some way but aren't quite sure how? RCIA has several people in our Inquiry group that will soon be moving or have moved to the Catechumenate and we need sponsors! You don't need to be a theologian or someone with a vast knowledge of Catholicism, just someone with a heart to walk this journey of faith with a person who is entering the Church. In fact, most of our volunteers talk of how valuable being a sponsor is because they are deepening their own Catholic faith at the same time as the person they sponsor. We meet on Thursday evenings from 7-9 p.m. in St. Albert Hall.

If you are interested, please call Kevin Raymond in the RCIA office for more information at 327-2330 x1306 or email KFRaymond@cathedralnashville.org.

HAVE YOU BEEN CONFIRMED?
Adult Confirmation
Are you over the age of 18, and a practicing Catholic who missed Confirmation for one reason or another? If so and you wish to be confirmed please call or email Kevin F. Raymond at 327-2330 x1306 or KFRaymond@cathedralnashville.org.   Preparations to complete the initiation sacraments for those who fall in this category will begin soon.

YEAR OF FAITH PROJECT
Do you want to better understand what we Catholics believe? Listen, at your convenience, to short presentations on the key tenets of our Catholic Faith. These podcasts are from the "We Believe" radio show hosted by Nashville Catholic Deacon Jim Walsh with commentary from a Protestant minister. These shows strengthen Catholics in what we believe and show us what we have in common with our Protestant neighbors. This is a free service of Catholic Media Productions. MEMO: FROM FATHER ED

LOAVES AND FISHES NEEDS YOU!
We are in need of volunteers to help serve food and provide desserts during Cathedral's volunteer days at Loaves and Fishes on the following dates:

  • Monday, June 3
  • Monday, July 1
  • Monday, August 6
  • Monday, September 2

If you would like to volunteer please email Shawn Curley at Smcurley@comcast.net or call 497-1513.
Loaves & Fishes is a ministry at Holy Name Church that provides hot lunches to needy families at the church. High school students are invited!

HELP! HELP! HELP!
Our budget is cut to the bone in order to meet expenses and continue to pay our monthly note on our parish loan for building the Fleming Center and renovating Saint Albert Hall. We have NO wiggle room for the unexpected, and as Dave Ramsey says, this is when "Murphy moves in!" Murphy is here …

  • We need $10,000 to replace our parish computer servers. Everything runs through our servers—heat & air, email, phones, security cameras, magnetic locks on outside doors, exterior lights on the Cathedral, and more. This is urgent! Our phones are making trouble now!
  • In a several week period we have had to replace the rectory kitchen appliances: microwave, two refrigerators, a freezer. $6,000 is needed.
  • A family in the parish has experienced an extreme situation involving grandchildren. While the details must be confidential, I'm trying to assist in putting some parish children in a much better, safer, and healthier situation: $10,000.
If you can financially help with any of these urgent items, please contact me or Lori:
lreddick@cathedralnashville.org.

WANT TO GO TO ROME?
LAST CALL!  Seminarian Phillip Halladay spent a pastoral semester with us. He will be ordained a deacon at Saint Peter's Basilica on October 3. Fathers Ed & Jayd, and Deacon Jim will be attending. Are you interested in going? Some interest has been expressed, but not enough to warrant the effort of planning a tour. We need to know how much initial interest there is before proceeding. It will be about a 10-11 day trip and cost $3,000 (probably less). The approximate dates are October 1-11. If you have some interest: esteiner@cathedralnashville.org.

CAN YOU HELP?
Help me send our Religious Education Director, Robin Baskin, to a once-in-a-lifetime gathering of DREs from around the world in Rome. The cost is about $2,600. Please send any donation amount to the Cathedral Office or drop a donation in any Sunday collection marked "Robin" in the subject line.
