THE LEGION OF MARY

The Legion of Mary is a lay Catholic organization founded in Dublin, Ireland on September 7, 1921. There are two types of membership.

  • ACTIVE: These members are required to attend a weekly meeting and undertake assigned apostolic works.
  • AUXILIARY: These members support the active members through their prayers- daily rosary and prayers in the Legion's pamphlet called a "Tessera".

The object of the Legion is the glory of God through the holiness of its members by prayers and apostolic works.

The legion of Mary at the cathedral was organized in February, 1952. Meetings are held every
Monday evening in Room #205 of St. Albert Hall at 6:30 p.m.

The assigned apostolic works by the Cathedral's legionaries include:

  • Visitation at Baptist Hospital and Bordeaux Hospital
  • Visitation at Nursing Homes - Richland Health Care, Belcourt Nursing Home, Nashville health Care, Trevecca Health Care and Mariner health of Nashville
  • Visitation of the homebound
  • Visitation of auxiliary members
  • Sponsors in the RCIA Program
